Android Auto can tell you if your USB cable is good or bad

Android Auto can tell you if your USB cable is good or bad

Most of us spend many hours in our car, especially on long journeys. It is therefore particularly important to always have a USB cable with you, allowing you to charge your smartphone on the road. For cars equipped with a display with an infotainment system, this is also used to transfer data from the phone to the latter.

In short, it is essential to have a cable in good condition, of good quality and above all, that works well. Except that it is not always easy to know if the one that accompanies us everywhere meets these criteria, when you have had it for several years already. And sometimes, you try to plug it in, nothing happens, but you have no idea where the problem comes from

A handy tool

But all these concerns could soon be a thing of the past, at least for motorists using Android Auto. Indeed, Google has just unveiled a brand new feature that should appeal to users of its infotainment system. This tool, one of the main new features of the 7.5.121104 update, is indeed able to analyze a USB cable to find out its status. Called USB Startup Diagnostics, this device is indeed able to check if a USB-C cable is damaged or incompatible with the system, and explain where the problem comes from. This innovative little nudge then checks if Android Auto can send data through it, which isn't possible when it's not compatible, if it's broken, or if the USB port on the smartphone not working properly
