 Volkswagen IDs. get even smarter

Today, vehicles are always more technological than ever, acquiring many driving aids and other practical features or simply aiming to improve occupant comfort. These include, among others, semi-autonomous driving, which is increasingly present, especially on electric cars, which are also equipped with trip planners, in order to optimize autonomy during long trips. But most of the time, these technologies are chosen at the time of purchase, and there is no going back to select new ones later. Nevertheless, more and more brands are working on over-the-air (remote) updates, allowing new features to be added to a vehicle already in circulation. This is particularly the case for Volkswagen, which is unveiling its new ID software. 3.0 for its electric range, we learn in a press release.

A host of new functions

As part of its vast "Accelerate" plan, Volkswagen wishes to become one of the leaders in terms of on-board technologies for its vehicles. This is one of the reasons why it is launching its new ID software. 3.0, which is nothing more than an upgrade for its entire electric range. This then includes new functions, including Travel Assist with data exchange, capable of adapting speed and positioning in the lane according to intersections, roundabouts and other turns.

Two new Park Assist functions are also appearing in the range, including a version with memory function, capable of storing up to five parking maneuvers. In terms of autonomy, this new update offers an all-new intelligent route planner, which takes into account traffic data and the desired level of charge at the end of the journey.

Faster charging

In addition to offering more comfort and safety, this update also improves the charging experience and saves more time at the terminal. Indeed, models equipped with the 77 kWh battery can now benefit from a charging power of up to 135 kW, compared to 125 kW so far. Customers can also activate Battery Care mode, allowing the charge level to be limited to 80% in order to preserve the latter. Intended for the entire ID family. (ID.3, ID.4, ID.5 and ID. Buzz), this software development will therefore concern all models leaving the factory. Those already in circulation will also be able to take advantage of it in the coming months, via the Cloud. Customers will therefore receive these changes via an over-the-air update, and will not need to go to a dealership. Convenient and fast.
