Audi Q5: the third generation already in testing

 Launched in 2016, the second-generation Audi Q5 is about to give way to its replacement. Witness the first prototypes of the SUV with rings crossed on the road, a few months after those of the future A4 with which it shares its underwear. The third-generation Q5 should be presented sometime in 2023, but already reveals some details despite a still significant layer of camouflage.

Outside look:

 The overall shape of the Q5 is recognizable, even if the size could increase slightly, in length as in width. At the front, the Single Frame honeycomb grille has been reworked, with slightly less angular contours. It finds itself framed by LED headlights and much more vertical air intakes than today. The bottom of the front bumper seems very open, and could be different on the final model. The rear view does not say much, since the lights are not final. These are decoys to deceive photographers and journalists. On the other hand, the idea of a light strip over the entire width of the tailgate can very well be retained. This could mark the end of optics integrated directly into the tailgate, a tradition on previous Q5s.  

Further electrification  

Like the A4 from which it derives, the future Audi Q5 should receive electrified engines. Thus, gasoline or diesel thermal blocks should still be allowed, but necessarily with a micro-hybridization. The rechargeable hybrid should also remain in the catalog, or even develop with new proposals little by little. Finally, a 100% electric version should join the ranks later, but will be distinguished by different undersides. The PPE platform is indeed shared with the future Porsche Macan, which will be exclusively electric. As always, the future Q5 will give priority to the future A4, which will be marketed from 2023. The SUV should follow with a presentation by the end of 2023, before an official marketing in 2024. Obviously, the Sportback version at Coupé-style plunging roof will also be renewed.
