Ferrari 296 GTS the 830 hp hybrid V6 in the open

Ferrari 296 GTS: the 830 hp hybrid V6 in the open

Last year, Ferrari presented its new berlinetta, the 296 GTB. A coupé equipped with a hybrid V6, developing 830 hp for top-level performance. For spring 2022, the Prancing Horse takes the roof off it as tradition dictates. But this time, the model abandons the name Spider, and takes up a name used by some of its ancestors: GTS. A typical targa style This GTS surname, for Gran Turismo Spider, was indeed used by the Dino 246, 308 or even 328. Here, the Ferrari 296 GTS pays homage to them with a very typical “targa” look, thanks to a fixed roof arch behind the seats, where an F8 Spider or an 812 GTS prefer a double boss. The 296 GTS has a retractable hardtop that folds in 14 seconds up to 45 km/h. The roof stows in a small trunk between the seats and the V6 engine, partly visible through a small window. Behind the passengers, a retractable window makes it possible to reduce the effect of the wind in the passenger compartment or to better hear the vocalizations of the engine, as desired. The technical part is identical to that of the 296 GTB coupé, with a 3.0-litre V6 biturbo, offering 663 hp, associated with a 167 hp electric unit. The whole, placed in the rear central position, thus develops 830 hp and 740 Nm of torque. Enough to reach 100 km / h in just 2.9 s, the same value as the closed variant. The 0 to 200 km / h is barely extended with 7.6 s (+ 3 tenths), and the top speed remains fixed at 330 km / h. Up to 25 km all-electric

Thanks to a 7.45 kWh rechargeable battery on the mains, the car can, like the coupé, drive up to 25 km in electric mode, and this up to 135 km/h. The roof does not add so much weight compared to the coupe, since Ferrari announces only 70 kg more with 1540 kg empty. Weight distribution is identical, with 40.5% front and 59.5% rear.
