Few manufacturers believe in the leisure supermoto, in fact only the KTM-AG group strives to be present! The new GasGas 700 SM is actually a clone of the Husqvarna SM 701, itself derived from the famous KTM 690 SMC R. One engine, three bikes and fun, lots of fun.
Is the GasGas SM 700 a new motorcycle? Yes, it did not exist. Is it 100% brand new? Not really, since it is the “red” version of the “orange” KTM 690 SMC R which also served as the basis for the “white” Husqvarna 701 SM. You follow ? In fact, KTM-AG bought Husky a few years ago and recently Gasx2. The Austrian owner then declined his famous single-cylinder LC4 on other models. An initial motorcycle = 2 more variants.
Concretely, if we follow the strategy of KTM-AG, the brand, let's say the Husqvarna branch is more upscale compared to KTM and GasGas more mid-range compared to KTM. But this is not necessarily reflected in the selling prices. Yes, it is complex. Let's say that the GasGas, here compared to the KTM, skips spoke rims for alloy and spoke elements. The front caliper is less luxurious too.
The new GasGas 700 SM is therefore a leisure supermoto, with a large displacement, intended for use on the road and possibly an occasional track day. The followers of the supermotard, lately, often roll in enduro transformed or in approved 450 SM. This for the lightness and the power to weight ratio. In addition, it allows them to trumpet: "it's not motorcycling, it's superword" as a famous youtuber marketer points out.
The big supermoto, like this GasGas 700 SM, is pleasure, fun in its purest form with a light and ultra punchy motorcycle. It's also a bike with limited versatility, not really suitable for duo or weekend starts, but for weekend riding on the rear wheel, it doesn't get any better. Finally, like all these motorcycles, it is impossible to take your eyes off it... unless you attach it to a fixed point with 5 locks.
On the price side: The new Gasgas 700 SM is displayed at €11,549, against the same sum at KTM or Husqvarna
