Learn about the car seat that Toyota made the luxury Lexus cars for

oyota Cressida was one of the most popular cars in the eighties, and in this era it was the best-selling car among Toyota cars, especially among the middle class. Luxury on the one hand, and a sporty engine on the other. Today, we will try to review today in this article on the ArabGT website the reasons behind the popularity of Cressida, which still occupies a distinguished position to this day among the public. Although the Cressida madness stopped with the introduction of the Lexus brand in 1989, many feel that the car did not get its due, and others consider it one of the most successful and distinguished cars among the cars produced by the Japanese company in its history.

History of Toyota Cressida

Customers loved this Toyota because it was a well-made car, had a sporty engine with a luxury car feel, and the price of the Cressida was acceptable, all of these factors in fact contributed to giving Cressida this distinctive position. The manufacture of the first generation of Cressida began in 1976 and was exported the following year to the global markets. The car achieved great success, especially in the markets of our Arab region and the American market, where the car was marketed as “the best new car in the market free of problems and defects.” It is noted, dear reader, that the Toyota Cressida was in fact a Toyota Mark 2 car, but with a different design and a new name, as it was renamed for the American and global markets, and the car was full of luxury features that Toyota cars did not have before. Its name is even taken from William Shakespeare's plays Troilus and Cressida for a touch of luxury. The mid-size, high-end sedan had standard features that were considered unusual at the time - features like air conditioning, a stereo cassette, a rear window defroster, and reclining front seats. From the Supra - and I put it in this car. The result was a powerful and quiet car that occupied the forefront of the American and global luxury car market. Which is understandable, especially since this car made driving luxury cars available to everyone, which raised sales significantly, but unfortunately the car did not stay for long, because Toyota noticed that the combination of sporting specifications and luxury was the magic formula that achieve sales, and instead of that This equation applies to one model. The Japanese company decided to apply this equation to a new production line with new cars and a new brand. Thus, the Lexus brand appeared, and the luxury Lexus LS 400 was its first model, and Toyota succeeded in selling the car at a luxurious price as well. So although the Cressida and Lexus LS 400 launched in 1989 were selling side by side, it wasn't long before Toyota made the sad decision to stop production of its beloved cheap car in favor of focusing on the new Lexus brand.

Cressida motor

As we mentioned earlier, dear reader, this Toyota car got the same engine used in the Toyota Supra, a 6-cylinder 2.5-liter engine, and it was this engine that made the real difference between Cressida cars and the rest of the cars of the same category. To be clear, this engine was able to accelerate from zero to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 8.5 seconds, and of course this number was considered very fast in that period, do not forget that we are talking about the eighties and about a sedan, not a sports car, And even a car full of luxury features When climbing into the Cressida, drivers could find luxury features not available in many cars during the 1980s. While the Cressida came as standard with automatic climate control, power windows, door locks, theft-deterrent system, it even gave drivers a choice of velvet or leather upholstery for the seats. Finding a Cressida today is not an easy task, and prices are on the rise, especially for old models, as the car has now begun to turn into a classic car that collectors and car enthusiasts compete with, but thank God our colleague Suhaib Shashaa had the opportunity to try one of these iconic cars in one of the episodes of the show Special Car. If you are a fan of the car, you can watch the video of the episode below:
