Mercedes has decided the fate of Maybach SUV Sedan production."

After years of anticipation, Mercedes-Benz has finally decided the fate of the Maybach SUV sedan, representing a new category in the world of luxury cars.

The Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury concept SUV sedan was unveiled in 2018, but after all these years, we now have official information about whether it will be available in a commercial production version or not. According to the German business newspaper Handelsblatt, the luxury car manufacturer has halted plans to manufacture what could have been a new luxurious car combining SUV and sedan categories into one model under the Maybach luxury division.

The idea behind this model was to combine the two most popular body styles in the Chinese market and create a new category called Sport Utility Sedan (SUS). However, it seems that the concept car bears an identity that is difficult to translate into a commercially available version. Three insiders informed Handelsblatt that the project has either been abandoned or suspended indefinitely. The decision was made a few months ago, which means that the production version of the Maybach SUV sedan will not see the light of day. Despite the previous plan to launch the car for sale in China around 2025. It was supposed to be exclusively manufactured in Beijing on the EVA2 platform currently used in Mercedes cars; EQS, EQS SUV, EQE, and EQE SUV.

Mercedes admitted in a statement to the German paper that the development of the new SUS model was paused because the car is extremely complex and costly to build. The company claims to already have plenty of electric cars available for sale in the Chinese market to cover all important segments: "In order to reduce complexity, we decided not to continue with the development of an additional vehicle specifically for China based on the EVA2 structure at this time."
